Oasis 是近十年來英國最受歡迎和最受評論家承認的樂隊之一；他們在將英國的guitar-pop 推向頂峰的過程中起了不小的作用。 

這個來自曼徹斯特的演唱組沿襲了 Stones 和 the Who 的粗糙灰暗的形象，融合了 Beatles 的曲調並帶有明顯的英國抒情色彩的主題。他們將這一切用吉他的吼叫聲串起來。而他們的挑釁式的譏笑可以和 Sex Pistols 的叛逆與 Stone Rose 的傲慢自大媲美。
起初，組合是由 Liam Gallagher , Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs , Paul McGuigan , 和 Tony McCaroll 幾個同學組成的，他們最初是為 Stone Roses 做吉他伴奏。當 Noel Gallagher 回到曼徹斯特是發現他的兄弟成立了一個樂隊後便提出要加入。但是前提是他能夠完全的控制這個組合，其中包括創作所有的歌曲；樂隊的其他成員同意了他的提議並將樂隊更名為 Oasis 。

在經歷了大量的俱樂部演出之後，樂隊引起了 Creation 唱片的老闆 Alan McGee 的注意並聆聽了他們的樣帶。

在與 Creation 唱片簽約後，小組在1994年推出了第一張單曲「Supersonic 」。歌曲「Shakermaker」成為了初夏的熱門歌曲。在首張專輯出版前一個月推出的單曲「Live Forever」成為英格蘭的熱門單曲。

小組的首張唱片《Definitely Maybe》成為英國歷史上賣的最快的處女碟。Oasis 熱持續了整整一個1994年，小組開始在更大的劇場中演出，每一首新歌都是演出的壓軸戲。但是小組內部的關係開始變的緊張。當「Supersonic」開始在美國打榜時，non-LP, String-laden 的「Whatever」登上了英國耶誕節期間的排行榜第二名。

在1995年初，小組著眼於美國，推出單曲「Live Forever」。這首歌成為MTV，album rock 和 modern rock 電臺的熱門歌曲並登上排行榜第二名。《Definitely Maybe》在美國售得金唱片。回到英格蘭後，小組錄製了新的單曲「Some Might Say」。在發佈的前夜，鼓手 Tony McCaroll 與樂隊分道揚鑣了，Alan White 頂替了他的位置。「Some Might Say」在五月一經推出即高居排行榜的榜首。它的成功使小組以前的單曲又重新走紅起來。Oasis 在那個夏天完成了他們的第二張專輯《( What's the Story ) Morning Glory？》並在1995年十月推出。一經推出，這張專輯即急躥至排行榜榜首，並成為繼Michael Jackson的 Bad 之後賣得最快的專輯。

在1996年，Oasis 熱成了世界現象。憑藉著單曲「Wonderwall」，《Morning Glory》成為美國十大專輯之一，並最終獲得五白金唱片；它也登上了歐洲和亞洲的 Top Ten .在１９９６年，Gallaghers 的關係不和成為八卦新聞的熱門。在Oasis 取消了美國之行後，他們集中精力錄製第三張專輯。《Be Here Now》在1997年秋推出，單曲「D'You Know What I Mean」大獲全勝。

1998年，樂隊發表了這張B面作品精選集，雖然都為B面作品，但依舊出色！

《Familiar To Millions》收錄的是他們去年於溫布萊球場的現場演出，到場樂迷有七萬人。演出的全程跟在日本惠比壽的小型演出是一點也沒有改變。處於不同大小的表演場館，演出是應該有一定程度的改變或適應，但Oasis就沒有把它放在心，或許，這就是他們被選為『最佳現場演出樂隊』的原因。中國人說：「泰山崩於前其色不變」，是一個高深的境界。

「當我在為這張專輯寫歌時，總是想要表達出怎樣的故事，因為每一首都代表了我在想什麼，怎麼去看這個世界，而我相信我會一直堅定往這目標走去……」。

Oasis呈現出強硬自我的態度，深獲支持者大力認同，而在他們第五張專輯《Heathen Chemistry》，曲風走向則是回歸到最原始Oasis該有的感覺，在沒有其他人的介入下，完全由Oasis全體成員包辦製作及寫歌工作，十一首歌中有六首是出自Noel之手，三首是Liam所寫，而Andy及Gem各獻上一首。首支單曲「The Hindu Times」在專輯問世前先行發表，空降全英金榜冠軍，濃厚的迷幻味在醒神的節奏裏散開；第二支亞軍單曲「Stop Crying Your Heart Out」，可以說是把過去Oasis的成長全部還原在此曲中，真誠鼓動受創的心，已被BBC選為英格蘭戰敗之歌，深深安慰著足球迷；充滿溫馨陽光味道的「She Is Love」，Noel獻給心頭的最愛，洋溢無限溫柔喜悅；簡單旋律所構成的「Songbird」，Liam展現成熟圓融的詞曲功力……相信在聽完這張專輯後，許多歌迷會找到當初迷上Oasis的原因！
